Three sets of shapes can be chosen in the settings screen, the first containing just three very common shapes. Setting the option to turn the shapes makes it rather more challenging to identify some shapes.

Watch as the shape builds up. How soon can you tell what shape it will be? Once the shape is complete, tap on the word or the shape to hear the shape’s name. Tap on the shedling to get the next shape. Playing with the sound on allows children to learn the shape names. Playing with it off allows them to say the name first before clicking the shape to hear it.

The shedling draws the outline of a shape, making a sound as it draws the sides and giggling at each corner to give a ‘sound picture’ of the shape. Draw shapes - Encourages the recognition of shapes and the comparison of some of their properties. e.g. Sides all sound the same length for squares but not for rectangles; squares have more corners than triangles and so on.

Tap the shedling to draw the same shape again. Tap the button to draw a new shape. How soon can you tell what the new shape will be? A variety of shapes are included, so not all triangles are equilateral. The sounds for each side help make the differences more obvious. Set the drawing sound on and the shape name off and ask the child to close their eyes. Can they guess what shape is being drawn just by listening?

Use the scroll arrows to change the shapes in the shape panel.

Hold the swirly arrow to clear all the shapes.

The home button that takes you back to the menu screen also needs a long press so that the picture isn’t cleared by mistake.

Tap the fish to make bubbles matching the shape of the fish. The bubbles turn as they float upwards. Which bubbles look the same all the time? Fish Encourages recognition of shapes in different orientations.

Tap the bubbles to burst them. They can be set to say the name of their shape as they burst.

Pop enough bubbles and the starfish will appear. Set the shape name to be spoken when a bubble is burst. Choose to say oblong or rectangle for the shedling’s bubbles.
